"A multi-billion dollar game run by just five people" — gamers slam Valve for the lack of operations in CS2

The Counter-Strike community is once again boiling over. A heated discussion erupted on Reddit over why CS2 still hasn’t received a single full-fledged Operation. Players are voicing frustrations about the lack of major events, sluggish updates, and a general feeling of stagnation in what remains one of the most profitable games on the planet.

One user pointed out that it's been more than 1,000 days since the last Operation — Riptide — was released. According to them, Valve has offered barely any new content in that time, aside from tweaks to competitive matchmaking.

“It’s been 1,401 days since the last Operation. Valve is horrible at updating the game. Server browser is useless, Wingman still doesn’t have the CS2 trailer maps, Danger Zone disappeared, Cache and Cobblestone are gone, Mirage hasn't been touched in years, and there are no seasonal events or Operations. What are they even doing?” — wrote Hauzs.

Another user, Boshva, sarcastically suggested that only “five people” are working on CS2, despite the franchise generating billions in revenue. The comment received hundreds of upvotes and sparked a wave of ironic memes. Although Valve employs around 350 people, many in the community feel that CS2’s development pace is painfully slow.

Some users attempted to explain the absence of Operations by pointing to the new Arsenal Pass, which has seemingly replaced the need for traditional seasonal events.

“Operations stopped the moment Arsenal launched. Why release limited-time passes when you can have one that never ends and contains all the content?” — suggested According-Ad-2947.

However, not everyone agrees with that logic. Many believe the “endless” pass lacks the same sense of urgency and excitement that past Operations brought — complete with missions, storyline elements, temporary maps, and exclusive rewards. Players fondly recalled Operation Shattered Web and Broken Fang, when the entire community would rally to complete tasks and unlock limited skins.

In their eyes, the current CS2 experience feels sterile. No Operations. No temporary modes. No significant visual refresh for Mirage. No return of iconic maps like Cache or Cobblestone. The game feels frozen in time.

Amid the debate, some Reddit users brought up other hot-button discussions from the past — including a fan-made list of the most “cursed” team rosters in CS history, such as Cloud9 with flusha, Team Liquid with Patsi, and Complexity with coldzera.

While CS2 continues to attract millions of players globally, the demand for a true in-game event is growing louder. The community isn’t asking for just another pass — they want a celebration: full of special missions, surprise challenges, and meaningful rewards.

And with Valve still silent, Reddit is speaking louder than ever.
